About
We offer three architect-designed properties across Nova Scotia — each one different, each one worth the trip.
The properties are the work of Brian MacKay-Lyons, one of Canada's most celebrated architects and a five-time Governor General's Medal winner, appointed to the Order of Canada in 2022. His buildings are rooted in the land, the climate, and the traditions of Nova Scotia — honest in their materials, quiet in their presence.
Behind the properties is also Marilyn MacKay-Lyons, who has been central to Shobac since she and Brian arrived in 1983. She has been the heart of the community that grew around the farm — welcoming architects, students, and guests from around the world, and helping make Shobac what it is today.
Together, they offer three ways to experience Nova Scotia. Shobac is a working coastal farm in Upper Kingsburg with cottages, hiking, and a spa steps from the Atlantic. B2 Lofts puts you in the middle of UNESCO-listed Lunenburg, in carefully designed apartments with harbour views. Maynard Place is a Governor General Award-winning townhouse in Halifax's North End, close to everything the city has to offer.
Place-based experiences, showcasing the variety getaways Nova Scotia has to offer.
